It's Soaping Sunday Y'all!

I was sitting here preparing to make a batch of soap and realized I could not remember the last time I used store bought soap. When I started formulating our skincare soap making was my least favorite thing to make. The process is so volatile and fragile. The slightest thing can ruin a batch. From temperature, to ingredient choice, to even the essential oils or fragrances. EVERYTHING matters. When choosing my ingredients for soap I choose performance ingredients. Ingredients that will have the most skin benefits, results and cleansing properties. It is a balancing act to say the least. The ratio of hard to soft oils play a major part in how long the bar lasts. I mean think about it, a person spends $5-$9 on a softer bar of soap is going to be upset because it will not last, so the bar has to be hard to with stand multiple use. But I could go on and on about the soap making process. As you can see it has become my most favorite thing to make LOL. .

But I do want to talk about the amazing benefits of Natural Soap. Natural soaps are ultra moisturizing!!! One of the natural byproducts of the process of making soap is glycerin. In general, glycerin is a great skin moisturizer, a humectant because it draws moisture to it and emollient that softens the skin. When made traditionally, these soaps contain glycerin which hydrates your skin while bathing. Store-bought or commercially-produced soaps are usually processed to remove the glycerin. The extracted glycerin is then used to manufacture in other useful products such as creams and lotions. Soaps without glycerin are drying and harsh and using them can cause excessive itchy, ashy and dry skin. On the other hand, handmade soaps from a natural soap company retain their glycerin, therefore giving a key ingredient required to avoid dry skin.

Natural soaps consist of better ingredients. Soaps manufactured for bulk distribution contain synthetic ingredients and components that are pretty cheap to produce in a lab. Regrettably, these artificial ingredients can be disastrous for your endocrine, reproductive, respiratory and immune systems, besides what they do to your skin. Handmade soaps are usually made of natural ingredients such as, shea butter, olive oil, coconut oil and cocoa butter which are incredibly nourishing and gentle to the skin. Natural soaps are extremely unique unlike mass produced store bought soaps. Store-bought or commercial soaps are typically mass-produced in plants that focus on maximizing profits at the expense of an average person, and each bar is identical. Natural ingredients do vary based on their growing conditions. Geographical location, time of year and Climate all affect how the harvest is reaped. That makes handmade soaps much different in feel and texture than store-bought soaps and the way they lather, smell and clean show how marvelous and unique and they truly are.

But again, I could go on and on about the benefits as well. We use soap everyday of our lives on the largest organ we all have which is our skin. With so many people turning towards natural soaps we decided to offer a workshop that will teach people how to create their own. In our workshop we will dive even deeper into the process of making and formulating soaps for various skin types, functions, conditions, and the benefits of ingredients and how to put the proper one together to produce desired results. Now let's start making some soap on this cold rainy SOAPING SUNDAY!!!
