Hey y'all!!! I know it has been forever since I have written a blog. I only write when I have something pressing that I need to tell you. LOL As we approach Mother's Day, I have been asked by several people to speak about self care. Self care is not only for mothers but for everyone. But today I am writing about us moms.
I am not a single mother but I was one for a long time and now married. So I can speak from both sides. Self care is a must. As mothers we are the ones who nurture, raise, and deal with the hectic day to day of just wearing the title. And let's not add on running a business or working full-time or being a student full-time. We all need a break!!!! But how do you get a break if you do not have a village? Or help with your children? How do you make time to take care of yourself? You can not pour from an empty cup. SO if you are empty, drained, and have nothing left who suffers? Your children. It is ok to be a little selfish. But how?
After starting JAK's I started working to develop the for HER & the Getaway lines of products. In doing so I was thinking of myself. I was a mother of 3, a full-time demanding job, a business owner, wife, etc. I didn't and do not have money on hand to just go to a spa or go on a get away. I have too many things and people depending on me. Not to mention my children are with me majority of the time, so "me time" was not an option. I created products that allowed me to getaway in my own home. I made it clear to my family that when Mommy is in the bathroom for bath time I was not to be bothered unless someone was dying. LOL it took some time for them to get use to not knocking on the door or yelling my name but once they caught on I made that time special.
I run a hot bath and depending on how I am feeling I may use an Oatmeal Herbal Bath Soak to relax sore muscles and aches, or drop in a Luxury Bath Bomb to soften and moisturize while breathing in the aromatics. I light my many candles, grab a glass of wine and relax. It may only be for 30-45 minutes but these were my minutes!!! I massage the oils from the bomb into my legs, feet, and arms. It's so relaxing and amazing how soft, moisturized and hydrated my skin feels. And I don't know about you, but when my skin feels good I feel good. I then bathe as usual and once out the bath tub I lock in all that moisture with my choice of Body Butter. I also give myself a facial with either the JAK's 4 step or the Tumeric & Honey Complexion line. Once I am done I am ready to face the kids and whatever is on the other side of that door. LOL
I am a bath girl so almost everyday is like this. I have to take that time in order to give them the best of me. There are so many moms out there who is over worked, overwhelmed, and simply just over it because sometimes they fail to selfcare and take time out just to replenish. As a mom I can tell you first hand, taking time to selfcare is a necessity just like taking your next breath. There is nothing wrong with taking a moment for you! We give so much of ourselves but hardly ever to ourselves and that is just not going to work.
Bottom line, If you are a mother I want you to start a selfcare plan. It may not be bath time like me. It can be anything you want, how you want it as long as it is for YOU! I do not care if it is sitting in the park, or driving around in circles. Do something everyday to recharge, regroup and refill! Your babies are depending on it!!!!
Let me know what you all are doing for self care! I would love to hear it and even try some of them. Until then have an AMAZING selfcare Mother's Day!!!
